LEPs don't have 'clout', argues Balls

SHADOW Chancellor Ed Balls believes that local enterprise partnerships don't have the funding or the "clout" to support their regional economies.

Speaking to an audience of young professionals from the Leeds financial and legal community, the Morley MP criticised the Government's decision to axe regional development agencies such as Yorkshire Forward and replace them with the LEPs.

You really have to laugh at the gall of Ed Balls when he says LEP's do not have sufficient funding. Of course not Ed ....your lot blew it all. Remember the note from your Treasury colleague to his successor? From what I have seen of the LEP's they are setting out the right road for regional recovery.... but tackling it at slower pace than we would all like because thanks to Labour we now have to learn to live within our means again. Its what Ed calls austerity!

Ask Mr. Balls to take a look at Humberside - our LEP is a breath of much needed fresh air and it will do much more than YFM could ever do for our region.
