Council considers development levy

BRADFORD Council has taken the first steps in moves to raise money to fund infrastructure projects from developers.
DTZ and Arup have been appointed by the Council to advise on the steps they would need to take to bring a 'community infrastructure levy' into operation.

I agree with both the above. It is potentially yet another brake on the development/regeneration proces, which the industry (already hobbled by a massively overelaborate planning process and section 106 demands) can ill afford

Lets reserve judgement as I know that there is a real intent to try and encourage development in Bradford but call me picky, the way to help kick start development in a depressed development sector is not to increase the costs of development to the guys who are trying to make development stack up against a background of uncertainty, a difficult finance market and lower values than hitherto!

CIL proposals need to be very carefully analysed and implemented. It clearly has significant potential to discourage much needed regeneration and investment. Particularly in the current challenging economic environment local authorities should be encouraging developers to invest, this will inhibit development.

totally agree with the sentiments...this council's executive is bereft of ideas and appear to want the city to decline further. They should be considering incentives not levies.
