SIRIUS Minerals has chosen Alan Watling to lead the project to build a new potash mine in North Yorkshire.

Mr Watling joins Sirius from African Minerals where he led the development of the Tonkolili iron ore mine in Sierra Leone. His career has also included spells at Rio Tinto and Fortescue Metals Group.

He will become managing director of the York Potash Project as Sirius Minerals prepares to submit planning proposals for the mine in the Scarborough and Whitby area.
