BEF backs fashion firms

TWO Yorkshire fashion firms have received backing from the Business Enterprise Fund.

Luggage label Hype has been given a £20,000 loan while Chalkstripe has borrowed £40,000.

Led by entrepreneur Paul Holmes, Pudsey-based Hype has used the money to create new samples and drive product development.

He said: “The BEF mentors helped us take the right steps to a realistic business plan and now we are focussing on a marketing plan for launch. If it wasn’t for the funding supplied by BEF we wouldn’t be at this stage today.”

Chalkstripe, based in Leeds, specialises in retail and wholesale Harris Tweed garments and is using the funding to buy fabric for its debut collection.

It has also designed a new website and fund trade with retailers in the UK and overseas.
