YORKSHIRE Building Society chief executive Chris Pilling claims spurious PPI claims are costing the mutual millions.

Mr Pilling attacked claims management firms for encouraging people to seek compensation even when they have never had a relevant policy.

The Society has had to take on extra staff to cope with the workload generated by the claims and has to pay £850 every time a case is referred to the Financial Services Ombudsman whether it is justified or not.
