Tourism boost as Marketing Leeds secures funding

MARKETING Leeds has secured more than £500,000 of funding which will be used to boost tourism and create jobs in the region.

The funding has been secured by the organisation from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund.

It forms part of the Growing Tourism Locally initiative, a three-year programme coordinated by national tourist board VisitEngland, which is expected to create more than 300 new jobs in the city.

Clearly the LDA connections of the CEO have been utilised here. The funding should be County wide and not focused just on Leeds. I hope that the funding will be used to promote destinations accessible from Leeds and in the hinterland; rather than just focusing on "city life". There is much more to a County than its largest city.

Lack of joined up thinking here !!....would have been more effective if given for an overall Yorkshire approach to tourism rather than a narrow focus on Leeds !!

Will the jobs "created" be long term or seasonal ? The money would be better uitilised in real day to day business that would create "real" employment ... more quango waste :-(
