Plans for two 'kissing towers' at Criterion Place were scrapped in 2008

PLANS to build another Leeds skyscraper have been dropped following the slump in the property market.

The £115m Criterion Place "Kissing Towers" scheme has been cancelled just a week after KW Linfoot put construction of Lumiere, Europe's tallest residential development, on hold blaming the credit crunch.

The company behind the plan, Simons Developments, wanted to revise the scheme because it said the original plan was no longer commercially viable.

Two very ambitious schemes cancelled out of many more still going on. Hardly a crisis, and it hardly leaves Leeds city centre a mess. But, then again, the council seems to have adopted a free-for-all attitude to development, anything to keep it's self-inflated ego going. Suzy should take a look at Bradford; parts of that really are a mess.

Oh lovely, another development grounded. More jobs down the pan. How long before the other building work in Leeds city centre (i.e. the redeveloped shopping centres) is stopped and Leeds is just left as a huge building site? What a mess.
