Cable backs Bradford as growth zone launched

BUSINESS secretary Vince Cable believes Bradford has an opportunity to become "an excellent place to do business" following the launch of the city's £34.8m 'growth zone'.
Speaking during a visit to Yorkshire yesterday, Mr Cable said: "We need growth that is more evenly balanced across the country. That is why we are supporting places like Bradford through the Regional Growth Fund.

This is a drop in the ocean to what the city needs to make a real difference. By the time it has been spent people will ask, "what happened to that?" To put it into perspective, £35m will not even sort the traffic on Canal Road out, and that would make the city centre more accessible. The split of new jobs to safeguarded would be interesting to know! Still it will keep the seatwarmers at City Hall busy and paid for I expect!

It would be great to see Bradford moving forward, and further improvements to the city centre. Watch this space for news of the plans to regenerate the old Odeon building, which I think will help with drawing people back to Bradford. There could be exciting times ahead - and heaven knows Bradford needs a boost!
