Health companies target international markets

YORKSHIRE companies have showcased the region’s expertise in medical technology at a major exhibition.

The MEDICA 2012 event saw 28 firms from Yorkshire travel to Düsseldorf as they look to target new markets.

Among the companies taking part was Sheffield-based Zilico which has developed a new device that helps diagnose cervical cancer.

Managing director Sameer Kothari said: “MEDICA has been an extremely productive show for Zilico. ZedScan I is due to be launched in 2013, so the exhibition was the perfect opportunity to engage with potential global distributors and we’ve had significant interest from right across the globe.”

Yorkshire companies were hosted at the event by Medilink Yorkshire and Humber, which promotes the growth of the healthcare technologies sector in the region, and UKTI Yorkshire.

Charlotte Fraser, international manager at Medilink Yorshire and Humber, said: “The companies exhibiting on the Yorkshire stand had a very successful show – once again highlighting the exceptional level of innovation, design and manufacture that exists in our region.
 
“Export can play an important role in a company’s business development strategy, particularly in times of economic turbulence, and MEDICA has offered an ideal opportunity for companies to explore this route to commercial growth.”

Other companies taking part included Barnsley-based Single Use Surgical which supplies disposable instruments and , a Barnsley-based company which manufactures and supplies high quality disposable instruments and Sheffield-based Uniplex.
