A FORMER HR professional has set up an online retail business, Present Issue, after she started sending magazines as gifts to relatives in hospital as an alternative to cards and flowers.

Claire Wooldridge’s Harrogate-based online magazine gift service allows customers to buy single issue titles semt with a personal message as an alternative to a card – from baby magazines for expectant mums and wedding titles for brides-to-be to home titles for friends moving house or travel titles for wanderlust colleagues.

The service is designed to be an affordable treat and allows customers to buy single issues, with no subscription commitments.

Present Issue also gives customers the option of buying bundles of different magazines, enabling them to pick and mix the perfect pile of titles for their recipient.

MANUFACTURER Fibrelite has supplied 190 trench covers to the Trinity Leeds shopping centre.

David Holmes, Fibrelite’s technical director, said: “Our composite trench access covers are proven to be ergonomically safe for men and women to replace.

“The design of the covers allows them to be lifted by our FL7 lifting aids. These allow the operator to remove and replace the covers without bending over or trapping fingers, thus maximising the safety of the lifting technique”.

Fibrelite’s composite covers have no re-sale value to the scrap market.

A £1m refurbishment programme has just been completed at the Jurys Inn Leeds.

The investment, which has taken six months to complete, is part of a £25m programme at Jurys’ 32 hotels across the UK and Ireland.

The refurbishment includes the restaurant and bar, lobby, a new fitness room as well as the 121 bedrooms.

Roger Clark-Coates, general manager, Jurys Inn Leeds said: “The refurbishment has transformed Jurys Inn Leeds into a stylish contemporary place where people will want to stay and work, meet colleagues in the bar and restaurant or just relax after a long day.

SHORT break specialist Superbreak is celebrating its 30th year in the travel business.

The company, now based in York, started with a modest portfolio of 91 hotels in 67 locations across the UK. Superbreak now boasts 5, 670 hotels in almost 700 destinations across the world.

Originally a marketing concept of British Transport Hotels, it was made a private company by two former employees of British Rail, Christopher Dunn and Gordon Miller who identified a growing trend for short break holidays with increased leisure time and disposable income.

The company employs more than 150 people.

HALIFAX-BASED video marketing business Limehouse, has picked up new clients including Bettys & Taylors, HSBC, Leeds and Manchester universities and Eureka! The National Children’s Museum.

The firm, founded five years ago by managing director Nick Howard, is working with both regional and national companies to produce videos, product based web commercials, sales films and video for social media campaigns.

2012 also saw Limehouse assisting YMCA  Bradford in creating a film aimed at encouraging businesses to back the highly successful Community Space Challenge initiative.
