WANdisco sets up new base in China

SOFTWARE company WANdisco announced that it has established a new operation in China.

The Sheffield-based Aim-listed group has launched a wholly foreign owned enterprise (WFOE) in Chengdu, which is already home to global IT players including Microsoft, Apple and IBM.

The WFOE, named WANdisco China – which enables the company to conduct business in China rather than through a local representative – aims to expand WANdisco’s activities in the country.

Chengdu has become an emerging base in China for IT companies, including Intel, Cisco, NOKIA, Canon, HP, Xerox and Dell.

WANdisco will provide sales, training, consulting and customer support for its software services sold in China from its new headquarters in Chengdu and will support the company’s existing sales office in Beijing.

It said it will also continue to expand sales and support offices in Shanghai and other key locations in China. It signed a deal to supply Chinese smartphone and communications giant Huawei with its applications last July.

“We view China as an emerging and high growth market for WANdisco,” said David Richards, CEO of WANdisco. “Having secured our first sale in China with Huawei, it was a natural progression to establish our Chengdu office as a WFOE and concentrate our efforts here, given so many companies have operations in the country. We are excited about this announcement and look forward to the growth opportunities this brings.”
