A round-up of the region’s legal and financial appointments.

THE personal law department of Leeds and Bradford law firm Gordons is now one of the biggest in Leeds, following its latest new appointment.

Alison Wright joins Gordons from Godloves in Leeds, where she was head of the wills and probate department.

Ms Wright has more than 20 years experience in private client work, with a wide knowledge base including wills, probates, tax and trusts. 

She has also gained in-depth experience within the charities sector and is developing a niche specialism in disabled beneficiary trust planning.

In addition, Frances Davies has become the new head of department, as Rachel Tunnicliffe moves to take a consultancy role within the team.

Gordons’ customerss include Wm Morrison Supermarkets, construction and high performance materials manufacturer Saint Gobain, international brewers Coors and the world’s largest electrical heating business Glen Dimplex.

YORKSHIRE accountants Garbutt & Elliott have recruited a dedicated VAT expert, with 25 years experience in the field of VAT.

Jane Roffey, a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT), joins the York office of Garbutt & Elliott after 11 years at Ernst & Young.

Her career started out at HM Revenue & Customs, followed by several years with a couple of the big four firms and a further spell with a middle tier firm as VAT and Charities Partner before returning to Ernst & Young.

Ms Roffey specialises in land and property, charities, education, partial exemption and negotiations on behalf of clients in dealings with HMRC.

ACCOUNTING firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers has announced that Katherine Bullock, Madeline Thomson and Matthew Gibson have been admitted to partnership.

pKatherine Bullock leads the firm’s private client team in Leeds, Hull, Sheffield and Newcastle – she is also the national leader of the firm’s inheritance tax network.

The private client team provides entrepreneurs, family businesses and high net worth individuals with a broad range of financial services. Ms Bullock’s promotion demonstrates the firm’s commitment to this market.

Matthew Gibson leads the firm’s international tax structuring practice in Yorkshire and the North East.

Recognised as one of the premier specialists in his field, nationally and internationally, his promotion reflects the importance and vibrancy of international trade within the region.

Madeleine Thomson leads the firm’s performance improvement consulting practice in Yorkshire and the North East.

Ms Thomson’s expertise spans operational cost management, overhead reduction and HQ transformation and she leads a team of locally based professionals.
