Appetite for expansion continues at Symington’s

FOOD manufacturer Symington’s has taken space at two Yorkshire production facilities as it looks to continue its growth.

The business has added 90,000 sq ft of space to its portfolio.

Leeds-based Fox Lloyd Jones, retained advisors to Symington’s, secured deals on both properties.

Symington’s, which acquired Leigh-based Victoria Foods last year, has taken space at a site in Hunslet, Leeds.

The premises is located close to its existing manufacturing base at Dartmouth Way.

The company, which employs around 600 people and has annual turnover of around £125m, has taken a long term lease on the 70,000 sq ft building, known as Sprint 70.

The unit is managed by F & C REIT and GVA and DTZ were the marketing agents at the site.

Paul Fox, director at Fox Lloyd Jones, said: “Sprint 70 has been on our radar for many years. We have been tracking its availability, and as soon as the current occupier confirmed their exit, it was important for Symington’s to secure the property for its planned growth and particularly given its proximity to existing sites and its loyal labour force.”

Symington’s is also moving into a factory for its gravy production operation in Goldthorpe, South Yorkshire.

The base will be accommodated within units 8a-c at Power Park and extend to 23,250 sq ft. They have been taken on a new lease from landlord M7. GVA and Knight Frank are the marketing agents for M7.

Mr Fox added: “Symington’s continue to build on their recent successes and grow at an extremely fast pace, and our role to ensure the property infrastructure and portfolio keeps up with growth rates is both challenging and exciting.

“We will be seeing a lot more activity from this Leeds based business in the next few years.”

Symington’s also has operations in Bradford. Last year, the company formed a private equity partnership with Intermediate Capital Group to support a management led secondary buy-out of the food manufacturer.
