University employee reaches Tourism Australia finals

AN employee at Leeds Trinity University has beaten off competition from 600,000 applicants to become a finalist for one of Tourism Australia’s ‘Best Jobs in the World’.

Communications officer Lisa Farrell is one of the 25 shortlisted candidates for the role of taste master. Based in Western Australia, the successful candidate will eat their way around the state, foraging out the finest produce and uncovering the best bars and restaurants.

Ms Farrell said: “It’s an amazing feeling to have made the final 25 for the job, especially after finding out that there were over half a million applications. I’m so passionate about sharing my food, wine and travel experiences, so the role of taste master is my dream job.”

To reach the final stage where three candidates are flown to Australia for a final interview, Ms Farrell must generate as much support as possible for her application.

She has formed a plan for this stage which involves sampling the life of a taste master over the coming weeks across Leeds, where she has lived for eight years.

She added: “I’m confident that I’m the best person for this job but I want to give people who may not know me already a strong reason to support me. With this in mind I’ll spend the next two weeks living as a taste master, eating my way through my beloved city of Leeds.

“I’ll document my discoveries on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and my blog, raising awareness of the fabulous culinary offer the UK has and hopefully generating lots of support along the way. This should give the public, and Tourism Australia, a good idea of what I could bring to the role of taste master.”
