Andrew Lindsay appointed new chair of Chamber

BUSINESSMAN Andrew Lindsay has been appointed as the new chairman of the Leeds, York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce.

Mr Lindsay, a director and head of the corporate department of the Leeds and Sheffield commercial law firm, Lupton Fawcett, Lee & Priestley, will replace Tom Morton, who will remain on the Chamber’s board until conclusion of the AGM in October.

Mr Lindsay has a longstanding commitment to the Yorkshire business community, having previously served as a director and president of the York & North Yorkshire Chamber, before becoming a director of the merged Leeds, York & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce in 2008.

He said: “This Chamber is a force for good in our region, effectively representing its members and ensuring their concerns are heard at the highest levels of government, both nationally and regionally.

“With business increasingly working alongside key government partners, universities, local authorities and Local Enterprise Partnerships, we have all the ingredients in place to help grow our region’s economy after the difficulties of the last few years, and I am  looking forward to the challenge.’’

Mr Lindsay said he was encouraged by the government’s response to the Heseltine Report, which stated that the Leeds, York & North Yorkshire Chamber is determined to play its part in helping deliver the growth agenda throughout the Leeds city region and beyond.

Former chairman Tom Morton said: “I am pleased to be passing on the important role of chairman to someone who shares my values and passion for local business.

“Andrew has already demonstrated his support for the Chamber movement over the years and I know he will be a great ambassador as the Chamber looks to the future.”
