Trauma care specialist reaches new milestone

A SLEEPY hamlet in North Yorkshire is the unlikely setting for a company that has now responded to more than 6,800 major incidents around the world, providing specialist trauma care to those affected.

The Centre for Crisis Psychology (CCP) in Broughton near Skipton was launched in the aftermath of the Bradford City stadium fire and has gone on to help thousands of people and organisations overcome traumatic events.

Since working with the injured, bereaved and survivors following the Bradford fire in 1985, CCP has provided its unique brand of support for incidents including the sinking of the Herald of Free Enterprise, the Lockerbie disaster, Hillsborough, the July 7 bombings in London and the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

More recently, the firm has also worked with those affected by the Nepal plane crash, the Concordia Costa cruise ship disaster and the Egyptian hot air balloon catastrophe.

Almost 25 years ago to the day, CCP helped those affected by the Piper Alpha oil platform explosion which left 167 men dead.

The firm says it has built its reputation and worldwide reach on its ability to provide a structured approach based specifically on the needs of the individuals.

This also includes employee assistance and well-being, training and development, as well as trauma care and recovery.

Clients include Thomas Cook Group, Thomsons Group, Bank of England, DHL, Vroon and Paddy Power, as well as other corporate and public sector organisations both in the UK and worldwide.

Anna Chapman, managing partner and daughter of co-founder Michael Stewart, said: “No two incidents are ever the same, so the bespoke nature of our approach is also its underlying strength. Unlike traditional counselling our work is structured, highly directive and has a strong educative component.

“Following a traumatic event there is only one chance to respond and that must be perfectly timed and clinically appropriate. We do not outsource any of our support and only use our own specially trained consultants to ensure unrivalled consistency.”
