Financial Appointments: Begbies appints; New corporate finance figure joins Ernst and Young and more

A round-up of the region’s financial appointments.

BEGBIES Traynor, the business rescue, recovery and restructuring specialist, is expanding its team in Yorkshire in recognition of the growth in insolvency work with a new appointment at its Halifax office.

Charles Brook who joins as a director, has many years of insolvency and business recovery experience and was formerly a founding partner in the Huddersfield-based practice of Marchands Associates until it was sold in 2005.

He spent the early part of his career in the legal profession in Leeds, eventually specialising in the resolution of commercial disputes for SME clients.  

Mr Brook, who is authorised to act as an insolvency practitioner by the Insolvency Practitioners Association and is also a fellow of the Association of Business Recovery Specialists, will work alongside Peter Sargent, who heads the Halifax office.

CORPORATE finance adviser Roland Barzegar has joined Ernst & Young in Leeds as a senior executive in the transaction advisory services team.

Mr Barzegar will work with clients, private equity investors and funders on a range of restructuring projects, with a particular focus on accelerated disposals and acquisitions.

He was recruited from Bristol-based Momentum Corporate Finance, where he spent 12 months in a lead advisory role working on mid-market management buy-outs and business disposals in the £10m to £100m range.

Roland BarzagerPreviously, he worked for four years in a London-based business recovery team of another international accountancy and advisory firm.

He qualified as a chartered accountant in 2006 after graduating from Bristol University.

LEEDS-BASED accountancy and business advisory firm Kirk Newsholme is has announced the appointment of Neill Rayland as an audit partner.

Mr Rayland joins Kirk Newsholme from the Leeds office of BDO Stoy Hayward where he was an audit partner for three years.

Having worked with a wide range of businesses for over 25 years, he has extensive experience of working with owner managed and family businesses.

He has particularly worked closely with companies in the manufacturing and property sectors.

THE Royal Bank of Scotland has appointed Marc Shirman as director of its Structured Debt Solutions (SDS) operation in Yorkshire and the North East.

In his new role Mr Shirman will lead a lead a six-strong team based across Yorkshire and the North East that specialises in providing bespoke funding solutions to support leveraged finance transactions such as acquisitions, management buyouts and management buy-ins.

The team will provide debt packages up to £10m to SME businesses across the region that typically have a turnover of between £1m and £25m.
Mr Wirman joins from the North West where he was Director of the SDS.

He started his career at KPMG where he trained in audit and then moved on to Baker Tilly where he worked in Corporate Recovery and Corporate Finance.
