Plans in for new housing development

PLANS have been unveiled for a new £3m housing development, which will feature 13 “executive-style” detached homes on a site earmarked for development near Barnsley.

The site in Ingbirchworth is owned by Keyland Developments, the sister company of Yorkshire Water, and is being developed in partnership with Huddersfield housebuilder Conroy Brook (Developments).

The planning process is being handled by the Leeds office of national planning and economic consultants Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners (NLP).

Chris Darley, senior associate director at NLP, said: “The developers are looking to build 13 high-quality bespoke, executive-style homes, designed to respect and enhance the existing street scene and minimise the impact on the nearby view.

“The dwellings will be in the top rateable value bands, in the current housing market these would be valued at over £250,000.

“The site had previously been removed from the green belt and is now a draft allocation in Barnsley Council’s development plan for low-density homes.

“The delivery of such houses is a key strategic aim of the council as it looks to make the Barnsley district one where high and middle income people choose to live, whilst also  providing local residents with the opportunity to settle and progress up the home ownership ladder.”

The site, which will be accessed from a new road off Wellthorne Lane, comprises of a 0.86 hectare plot immediately south-west of the existing built-up area of Ingbirchworth.

NLP intends submitting a detailed planning application to Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council in February.
