Middle East success for Yorkshire healthcare businesses

THE largest ever group of Yorkshire companies has returned from the biggest healthcare exhibition in the Middle East having secured a number of major deals.

Twenty-five Yorkshire companies exhibited at this year’s Arab Health as part of a Yorkshire Pavilion organised by Medilink Yorkshire & Humber and supported by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).

The Dubai show attracts more than 70,000 delegates across four days, including distributors, clinicians and end-users from across the Middle East.

Birkenshaw-based Park House Healthcare, pressure area care specialists and manufacturers of hospital beds, was one of the companies to secure a major deal over the four days.

Peter Carroll, sales and marketing director for Park House Healthcare, said: “We’re very pleased with the number of new opportunities that developed from our target markets and the enhancement of our existing distributor network over the course of the show.

“In particular we received confirmation from our Saudi Arabia partner of a substantial order comprising low beds and specialist pressure area care mattresses.

“Following a meeting at Arab Health we are now also expecting an order of acute beds and Pressure Area Care (PAC) mattresses with a new Egyptian distributor for 2014.”

Medilink Yorkshire and Humber, a professional association for healthcare technology businesses, academics and clinicians, has organised a Yorkshire pavilion at Arab Health for over a decade.

Peter Wheeler, international manager for Medilink, said: “The Middle East is a very attractive market for our members – particularly as it continues to invest heavily in healthcare.

“This is the largest group of Yorkshire companies we have ever brought to the show – including the biggest stand on the entire UK Pavilion, Leeds-based The Phoenix Partnership (TPP), who had a very impressive double-decker stand.

“We are already taking bookings for Arab Health 2015 and will continue to work with UKTI to help companies grow their business in the Middle East.”
