True North now UK’s biggest regional ‘True Indie’ according to survey

YORKSHIRE TV production company, True North, has been ranked the UK’s biggest regional ‘True Indie’ in the Broadcast Indie Survey 2014.

The Leeds-based business, behind shows including MTV’s The Valleys and More4’s property show Building The Dream, has seen turnover grow 42% from £7.1m in 2013 to £10.m in 2014. True North said it is the only fully independent indie with headquarters in England to feature in the Top Ten Regional Indies list.

The commissioning of a second series of Junior Vets for CBBC has also helped to propel the company to the number two spot in the list of Top Popular Factual producers in the UK, the firm said.

In the list, looking at turnover of over 150 Indies nationwide, True North has jumped 14 places over last year’s results to number 58 in the overall rankings.

Marc Allen, managing director at True North, said: “Thanks to the hard work of the creative teams here, True North has always been highly regarded as a producer of first rate television, while the past 12 months of exceptional growth has well and truly put us on the map as a major player in the UK Indie sector. We’ll not stop here though; in fact everyone is more determined than ever to keep building on the great work that continues to be generated.”

Creative Director and founding partner Jess Fowle, added: “With shows including the irrepressible The Valleys and inspiring property series Building The Dream for More4, through to heart-warming Junior Vets for CBBC and our international drive with a particular focus on China, we’re incredibly proud of the quality and range of output we’ve been able to deliver this past year. We’ve got exciting plans for next year with new hires on the horizon and a push into ambitious new areas of business.”
