Communisis makes two creative acquisitions

COMMUNISIS today announced two acquisitions of digital and video businesses.

The former printing group, which now describes itself as a leading provider of personalised customer communication services, said it is buying video and film production firm Jacaranda Productions for £1.5m and digital media business Public Creative for £350,000.

Both firms are based in London and Communisis said the acquisitions add specific skills and expertise to support its strategy to build a “comprehensive range of integrated services in its design segment and present opportunities for revenue synergies with existing Communisis clients”.

Jacaranda, which made EBITDA of £390,000 on turnover of £1.6m in the year to the end of February 2013, employs six people and creates, manages and measures the effectiveness of video content for global brands.

For the last 15 years Jacaranda has been voted in the top 10 independent production companies in Televisual’s annual ‘Corporate Top 50’ awards and has won over 250 creative awards including The Digital Impact Awards, Cannes Corporate Media and TV Awards and New York Film and TV Awards.

Communisis will pay a further £500,000 for Jacaranda based on its profits over the next three years.

Public Creative, which creates and drives brand awareness with digital media using web and mobile applications, has eight staff and
generated adjusted EBITDA of £50,000 on turnover from continuing activities of £600,000 in the year to the end of April 2013.

Andy Blundell, Communisis chief executive, said: “Jacaranda and Public Creative bring important new skills to Communisis, in line with our strategy, as the Group continues to build its integrated service proposition. There is growing demand from clients for engaging content, especially for video and film across all digital channels, and these Acquisitions complement and enhance our existing capabilities.

“We are delighted that these talented and committed teams have decided to join Communisis and look forward to working with them to offer our clients a broader range of creative services.”

Nia Mosley of Clarion in Leeds provided legal advice to Communisis on the acquisition of  Public Creative.
