In Brief: Dalton Mills; Getech; MNA Consulting; Quickline Communications

DALTON Mills could create 1,000 jobs for Yorkshire, once its renovation is complete.

Restoration work has taken place on the Keighley-based grade II listed mill, which was purchased by Paul Harris of Bellissimo last year, including a new roof and sandblasting for a large part of the site. The Clock Tower has been transformed into a business park, which is almost fully occupied and a list of interest is building for the remaining 180,000 sq ft that is currently being renovated.

The mill frequently attracts interest from production companies who want to use it as a backdrop for TV or film and it has had a host of starring roles in productions such as Peaky Blinders, North and South and a number of Bollywood films.

Shadow Chancellor and Labour MP Ed Balls visited the former textile mill, joined by the Labour prospective parliamentary candidate for Keighley, John Grogan.

Mr Balls said there could be as many as 1,000 jobs at the former textile mill, as it was in its heyday, once its renovation is complete, and he described it as “a big vote of confidence in Keighley’s future”.

OIL exploration company Getech has won a new contract worth $600,000.

The Leeds-based has signed a contract for delivery from its recently upgraded US gravity dataset.

The US gravity data business, including the earlier version of the dataset, was acquired from Lisle Gravity in 2008.

Raymond Wolfson, chief executive of Getech Group, said: “Typical sales from our US gravity dataset tend to be for specific areas of interest to our clients. However, this is the second major sale we have reported out of the dataset. To put it in context, these two sales alone have virtually matched the full acquisition price that we paid for this business.”

MNA Consulting (UK) has invested £10,000 in new equipment.

The Goole-based business has invested the cash in Face Fit Testing equipment – a legal requirement for anyone who has to wear respiratory protective equipment in the workplace. Health and Safety regulations require employers to provide evidence of a Face Fit Test for employees who wear a mask as they go about their work.

Kath Lockwood, a health and safety consultant at MNA Consulting, which specialises in health and safety consultancy, construction project management and personnel development and training, said: “The money spent on the new equipment and training represents a significant investment for us, but has enabled us to offer a specialist service that we know there’s demand for. It’s something that previously wasn’t available locally.”
