Five new partners for PwC Yorkshire

PwC has announced the appointment of five new equity partners in Yorkshire.

Gary Shaw, Hamish Clark and Richard Giles all joined earlier this month. In addition to the promotions, partner Martin Hodgson is returning to the Yorkshire practice from the South East, to head up the firm’s 300-strong tax practice across its six northern offices. Partner Brian Lochead has also joined the Yorkshire practice from London as part of the region’s business recovery services team. He will focus on developing the firm’s corporate offerings.

Shaw leads PwC’s Yorkshire & North East financial services team. Having joined PwC as a graduate, Shaw worked at BPP and Provident Financial, before returning to the Leeds assurance practice nine years ago.

Clark is PwC’s Northern healthcare leader. He is originally from New Zealand and has been with the firm for the last five years. He works with some of the North’s foremost health organisations, supporting them in operational transformation, cost reduction and whole system integration.

Giles heads up the firm’s pension advisory team in the North. He specialises in helping companies manage the costs and risks to them from their pension scheme. He also leads the firm’s Skyval proposition in the region, which allows companies and trustees to manage, monitor and take decisions about their pensions issues.

Hodgson has been with the firm for the last ten years. He has lived in York for the last 21 years and worked at PwC’s Leeds office as head of the Yorkshire and North East tax practice until 2008 when he moved to head up the firm’s tax team in the South East.

Lochead has been with PwC for 14 years and became a partner in 2004. He has extensive international experience, speaking five languages and co-leading PwC’s European network for five years.

Arif Ahmad, PwC’s Leeds senior partner, said: “Our Yorkshire practice has had a great year, with strong growth in revenues, iconic wins and involvement in many of the leading M&A and restructuring projects. These appointments reflect our commitment to having the best team of specialists available to help our clients be successful.

“I am delighted for Gary, Hamish and Richard.  Their admission is a credit to the dedication and hard work they have put in, and I welcome Martin and Brian who are great additions to our Yorkshire practice. ”

The firm has also appointed three new directors and 15 senior managers across its offices in Leeds, Hull and Sheffield.

Ian Morrison, PwC’s Yorkshire & North East regional leader, said: “These appointments represent a significant investment for PwC in Yorkshire as we continue to grow in the region. Throughout the downturn we continued to admit new partners and recruit high levels of experienced hires, graduates and school leavers, despite the uncertain economic environment. This has positioned us well for the return of market confidence. Our ambitious partner admission and recruitment plans this year reflect our confidence in our future growth.”

Nationally, PwC has promoted a record 53 new equity partners, 43% of whom are in the firm’s regional offices, reflecting the significance that PwC places on UK regional growth prospects and the importance of supporting clients at a local level.
