Samsung to create 350 jobs in Yorkshire

ELECTRONICS giant Samsung is to create more than 350 jobs in Yorkshire.

The South Korean group plans to open a customer call centre on Claypit Lane in the city, which will create 358 customer support roles.

The move was announced today by Prime Minister David Cameron as he unveiled a number of inward investment projects at the Commonwealth Games Business Conference in Glasgow.

Samsung’s announcement follows French motorway operator Sanef confirming it will invest £1m to create 300 jobs at a 28,000 sq ft office at the St John’s Centre in Leeds.

Mr Cameron will reveal projects worth more than £200m including Japanese ICT company KDDI investing a further £135m into Telehouse’s data centre campus at London Docklands and US advertising company Intent Media investing £5m to open an office in the capital.

Mr Cameron will tell business leaders that companies should use the Commonwealth Games like the London 2012 Olympics – to increase their profile on an international stage.

“Part of our long-term economic plan is about promoting every part of our country to the world and Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games will give us another fantastic platform to do this,” he will say.

“It follows on from London 2012, which was not just an amazing sporting event, but also a great opportunity to secure a lasting economic and sporting legacy for the whole UK.

“This government will continue to work on behalf of every hardworking business in the UK to drum up trade, encourage investment and pave the way for growth so we can generate jobs, pay our way in the world, and create stability, security and a brighter future for our country.”
