Appointments: Irwin Mitchell; Leeds Building Society; Connect Gazelles

THE Sheffield office of law firm Irwin Mitchell has recruited a new medical negligence partner.

Julianne Moore joins the firm from Pannone’s London office.

Moore has particular expertise in helping victims of birth injuries and those suffering cerebral palsy as well as cases involving delays in diagnosing cancer, surgical accidents and representing families at inquests in fatal cases.

Lisa Jordan, national head of the medical negligence team at Irwin Mitchell, said: “We are delighted to have a lawyer of Julianne’s calibre and experience join the team in Sheffield.

“The majority of the NHS carries out fantastic work and saves lives on a daily basis, but mistakes do sometimes happen and they can have a massive impact on the victims’ lives. The work we do provides the appropriate treatment, support, rehabilitation and care those victims of injury need to help get their lives back on track.”

CONNECT Gazelles, Yorkshire’s not for profit entrepreneur mentoring organisation, has announced Neil Ewin, of EW Business Development (EWD) as its new chairman.

The board also expressed thanks to Richard Doyle for guiding Connect Yorkshire and the Connect Gazelles “through a difficult period to relatively calm waters”.

When Doyle took on the Chairmanship in 2009, Connect Yorkshire was funded in part by the public sector in the form of Yorkshire Forward and in part by many of the professional service firms in Yorkshire.

Nick Butler, Connect Gazelles CEO said: “Since the demise of Yorkshire Forward, with Richard’s substantial help, Connect Yorkshire has been transformed into the Connect Gazelles so that it is now wholly funded by the private sector while maintaining its core aim of helping Yorkshire companies grow. During this period it has used the financial resources it had saved up to create the Connect Gazelles and is now cash positive. We look forward to this steady growth continuing well in to the future.”

Richard Moran, partner and head of business services at Clarion, was welcomed as a director. He will join Neil Ewin, Nick Butler, Richard Doyle, Paul Rose, Gerard Toplass and Kevin Holinrake all of whom serve as directors without payment or expenses.

Ewin said: “I have been on the board of Connect Yorkshire since January 2013 and when Richard Doyle said he would like to step down as chairman after serving for five years, I was delighted to accept Nick’s request for me to succeed him. The Connect Gazelles aim is to help Yorkshire companies to grow by learning from over 50 of Yorkshire’s most successful entrepreneurs.”
