Charity property football match returns to its roots

AN annual sporting event involving members of Yorkshire’s property community is celebrating its 10th anniversary by returning to the venue where it first took place.

The Yorkshire Property Charity Football match will be held at The John Charles Centre for Sport, where the very first game was held in 2005.

Since then it has taken place at venues including Valley Parade, Elland Road and on a specially created pitch at MEPC’s Wellington Place scheme in Leeds.

The match between property agents and others working in the profession will be followed once again by a dinner, expected to be attended by more than 300 guests, at The Queens Hotel in Leeds on September 18.

Having raised a record £39,700 for children’s charity Barnardo’s in 2013, the organising committee is confident of surpassing that target this year.

Jonny Phillips, of Beach Baker Property Recruitment, who founded the game with GVA’s Iain McPhail ten years ago, said: “With the event now a mainstay of the property calendar we want to make this another record year. Barnardo’s is a fantastic charity working here in Yorkshire to support the most vulnerable children in our local communities and we are delighted to be supporting the organisation again.”

Organising committee member Craig Burrow, director at Bruntwood in Leeds, said there were still opportunities for companies interested in sponsoring the event to come forward.

Mr Burrow said: “There are a number of sponsorship packages available which offer excellent exposure to the Yorkshire property market at very reasonable prices.”

Tables of 10 for the dinner are selling quickly but there remain a number available.

A number of auction prizes will be available at the dinner, including a Tour de France cycling jersey signed by the top three riders in 2013’s competition.

Sponsors include law firms Blacks Solicitors and Walker Morris and property companies Harworth Estates, MEPC, Towngate and Bruntwood.
