Brick merchant snapped up by rival

A YORKSHIRE brick merchant has been acquired by a key competitor.

Bridgend-based Brickability has acquired Leeds firm Brick-Link to create a group with annual turnover in excess of £45m and more than 45 staff.

Bricklink was launched in 1988 by David Monkhouse and director Martyn Green and celebrated its 25th anniversary last year. It will remain as a trading company within the Brickability group of companies to allow continuity of trade with all existing suppliers and customers.

Calum Currie, managing director of Brick-link, which works in the construction industry, will continue in his current role, whilst also joining the main board of Brickability.

He said: “The amalgamation of Brick-link into the Brickability group of companies makes the larger group market leaders in terms of facing brick distribution in the UK. The new group will also benefit from complete national coverage.”

Hamish Morrison and Matt Tice at BHP Corporate Finance acted as lead advisors to the vendor.

Morrison said:  “Having successfully helped Calum acquire the company through an MBO three years ago it was very satisfying to be able to then help him with this transaction which I am sure will provide a great platform for the business to continue to go from strength to strength.”

Legal advice was provided by Natalie Saunders of Pharos Legal.
