Thurston Group to create 100 jobs in the next year

THURSTON Group is looking to create up to 100 jobs in the next year on the back of foreign-led growth and expansion.

The Wakefield-based modular and portable building manufacturer has powered ahead with its plans to expand and develop the business abroad following a funding boost at the start of the year.

Jonathan Petch, CEO at Thurston Group, said: “Our plans to develop our export market have flourished and as a result trade abroad has increased tremendously. The majority of our website enquiries now come from foreign countries and we are currently trading in Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Ghana, Norway and Pakistan along with many other European countries. We are also currently trying to set up distributorships of our products in Mexico as this market poses huge opportunities for us.”

Based at Quarry Hill Estate, Thurston Group was established in 1970 and is a leading manufacturer and provider of modular and portable buildings for use in every industry and market sector, including health, education, transport, construction, defence, and telecommunications. The company provides a full service to customers including everything from consultancy, design and manufacture through to planning permission and building regulation approval.

Petch added: “Domestic trade is still bucking the trend and UK business continues to grow organically but making the considered move to focus on foreign sales has really paid off. Our business can be split into three main divisions – products, projects and YMC Container Solutions. It is the product and project streams that we have initially focussed our export strategy on and following on from this success we are hoping to do the same for our YMC Container Solutions division over the next 12 months.

“Expanding abroad has been no mean feat, but thanks to the support and advice we received from our accountants Mazars, the process has been simpler than we originally anticipated. We have worked with Mazars for a number of years and have always found their support to be invaluable but the fact that they operate on an international level has really aided our expansion.”
