Healthy expansion for veterinary group

A FAMILY-run Yorkshire headquartered veterinary group is investing £250,000 in a new clinic in Liverpool.

White Cross Vets, which has practices in Guiseley and Roundhay, already operates a successful practice in West Derby and the company will be creating up to eight new jobs at the new clinic, which opened this week on the site of the former Gateacre Park Shopping Centre on Gateacre Park Drive.

The practice will be run by vet Penny Lott and a team of experienced veterinary nurses, Eve Loftus and Jenny Orsich.

Lott says: “We opened in West Derby in 2011 and the popular practice has treated over 3,500 pets in the past year alone. Our new practice is a state-of-the-art, fully equipped veterinary surgery where we will be able to perform a wide range of procedures from neutering to emergency operations and orthopaedic work.”

White Cross Vets has leased one of three retails units on the site which is being redeveloped by retail giant Aldi.

Tim Harrison, managing director of the family-run veterinary group, says: “The opening of our second practice in Liverpool is a significant milestone for our business. Last year we opened our 12th practice in Tividale in the West Midlands and we have grown the business from 10 to a team of 110 in just five years, making us one of the fastest growing practices in the country. This expansion is a direct result of the increase in the number of clients registering with us across all 12 of our practices and we are also looking to open further practices in the next few years.”

The Gateacre clinic will be the first veterinary practice in the North West to use a revolutionary North American concept that boosts recovery rates for both cats and dogs.

Lott added: “The practice will pipe bespoke, relaxing music, which has been endorsed by leading animal behaviourists, into the separate dog and cat wards to create a calming atmosphere that will help soothe and relax pets before and after operations.

“We are delighted to be the first veterinary practice to be implementing this concept here in the North West and following its success in our Tividale practice we are very excited to be providing such a forward-thinking service to pets in Liverpool.”
