Planning application approved for £10m Harrogate leisure hub

PLANS for a major £10m leisure hub that will bring an art-house cinema to Harrogate have been approved.

The scheme from Harrogate-based urban regeneration specialists 4Urban, involves the redevelopment of the former Co-Operative building on Albert Street/Station Parade.

Paul Lancaster, managing director of 4Urban, said: “We are delighted that the planning committee has approved our plans.

“This will enable us to deliver a high quality scheme that will include an art house cinema and high quality restaurants and bars – all new to Harrogate – in an accessible and attractive leisure hub that will add significantly to the vitality of the town centre.

“We now look forward to starting on site, with demolition of the 1950s Co-Operative building scheduled to begin in mid January, and aim to have the development completed by late 2015.”

Harrogate Borough Council approved the plans today.
