Go ahead for Humberside Airport hotel

A NEW £7m hotel is to be developed at Humberside Airport.

The hotel – which when operational will carry an internationally renowned brand – is being built by East Yorkshire property developer Paul Green and will contain around 100 bedrooms and feature a restaurant, bar, gym and secure on-site parking.

The development, which is aimed at tourists and business travellers, is earmarked for land between the A18 link road to Grimsby and Nightel Humber – the airport’s only existing hotel which caters for offshore workers in the oil and gas and renewable energy sectors, also developed by Green.

Work is expected to get underway on site, approved by North Lincolnshire Council this week, over the coming weeks with the hotel forecast to open its doors in summer next year. It’s set to create 60 new jobs.

Green said he decided to build the hotel after market research identified a ‘significant demand’ for beds on or near Humberside Airport for business travellers and holidaymakers.

He said: “I am delighted by the news. The hotel has been a long time in the planning and there has been a huge amount of work gone into it by a lot of different people, so the achieving planning consent is a real milestone for the development. It turns what could have remained just a dream into reality.

“I feel it is the right time for a hotel of this nature. As the airport develops and becomes more important both regionally and nationally, it needs a comfortable place for travellers to stay in order to remain competitive, and what we are planning will certainly provide that.”

The development has been part funded by an RDF grant, organised via North Lincolnshire Council.

Green added North Lincolnshire Council and the airport’s owners, Eastern Group, had played an integral role in ensuring the project got off the ground.

“North Lincolnshire Council has been fantastic in helping us access the relevant funding and assisting us in complying with the planning process, and Eastern Group has given us excellent input as well. Nightel Two wouldn’t be going forward without them,” he said.

Coun Liz Redfern, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “This further demonstrates the confidence major companies have in investing in North Lincolnshire. Humberside Airport is a fantastic local airport, which recently increased the number of destinations, making it even more attractive to holiday makers.

“The new hotel will complement the existing Nightel facility and will provide essential jobs, enable people to stay longer in the area, and help boost our local economy.”

Paul Litten, commercial director, Humberside Airport, said: “We are constantly developing and improving facilities for customers – businesses and holidaymakers – at Humberside Airport, so this is great news that we will soon be able to offer fantastic accommodation for them. The new hotel is in the perfect location and will add to the ever growing facilities at the airport.”

Green is currently in negotiations with a number of international hotel brands with a view to operating the hotel and an announcement is expected to be made shortly.
