In Brief: BCL Accountants; Blackbox Medical; North Sea Offshore Wind; Irwin Mitchell

BCL Accountants, along with start-up InCloud Accounting, has moved to larger premises to accommodate on-going expansion.

Chris Nunn, managing director of both firms, claims that InCloud Accounting is the only UK accountancy firm offering clients continually updated information accessed from their handheld devices. “Preparing returns, VAT, taxes, company secretarial, deadlines and dealing with HMRC are tasks that are dreaded by many,” he said. “InCloud provides our clients (many of whom are SME’s) with an easy and cost effective option to keep on top of endless and time consuming paperwork.”

Before acquiring accountancy firm Bates and Co 21 years ago, which was subsequently renamed BCL Accounting, Nunn spent many years running a number of  successful ventures in the construction and licenced trade in and around  Harrogate.

Leeds-based BCL Accounting and InCloud Accounting currently employ eight people and there are plans to double staff levels in the near future.

A Wetherby-based medical software company had landed two prestigious NHS contracts in the North East.

Blackbox Medical’s pioneering software package is designed to save time, money and lives. The company has signed deals with two Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) in County Durham.

These contracts mean that family doctors in the North-East are the first in the country to use the software, which radically improves safety for primary care patients and communication between hospitals and GPs.

Doctors in Co Durham will now be able to compare their patients’ hospital treatment discharge information, which is often inadequate for proper aftercare, with more detailed data provided later.

THE development of offshore wind operations and maintenance in the North Sea comes under the spotlight at a high profile international three-day conference this week.

North Sea Offshore Wind 2014 calls on the collective resources of Enterprise Europe Network, WindCluster Norway, Innovation Norway, Targeting Innovation, who have organised the event with Hull-based Team Humber Marine Alliance (THMA).

Mark O’Reilly, director at THMA, said: “There is a distinctly pan-North Sea feel to the conference that will see close cooperation between companies and organisations from Germany, Holland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

“This year, as in 2012 when we also hosted the conference, the aim is to bring together offshore wind professionals and organisations with an interest in offshore wind from across the North Sea region in order to network and develop partnerships. Participants will be able to share ideas, experiences and best practice, and to identify and propose potential solutions in a relaxed but structured environment.”
