Construction set to start on £320m waste recovery park

THE construction of a £320m waste recovery park in North Yorkshire is set to start next month.

North Yorkshire County Council and City of York Council have formally signed the contract to design, construct and operate the state-of-the-art integrated waste management facility with AmeyCespa.

Construction of the facility is expected to take around 36 months and will become fully operational during 2018.

Once completed, the facility, Allerton Waste Recovery Park, is expected to process around 320,000 tonnes of household and some commercial waste each year.

It will also generate renewable electricity to power the equivalent of more than 40,000 homes.

The project has been funded with competitively sourced finance from international project finance banks as well as equity investment from AmeyCespa, Equitix and Aberdeen UK Infrastructure Partners, a fund managed by Aberdeen Asset Management.
