End of austerity? Accountants to open £1,500 bottle of wine at Leeds Christmas party

BHP Chartered Accountants will open a 27-litre bottle of red wine this lunchtime at its Christmas party.
The bottle of 2001 Reserva Rioja, which restaurant Sous Le Nez claims is the largest in the north of England, will provide everyone in the party of 70 with one and a half large glasses.
Hamish Morrison, a partner at BHP, said: “2014 has been a Vintage year for BHP Corporate Finance with our team converting many substantial deals and so this seemed a fitting way to celebrate with the local professionals who have provided us with invaluable support throughout the year.”
It is only the second wine of its sort the restaurant has sold since Sous Le Nez opened in 1991 and the first to be opened in the restaurant. The first wine bottle sold was taken to Buckingham Palace for a charity event several years ago.
General manager of Sous Le Nez, Franck Orsat, added: “We are looking forward to the momentous occasion of opening this unique bottle of wine, which has been in the restaurant for many years.

“Due to the large size of the bottle the wine has to be specially treated and it has been necessary to prepare it for decanting by standing erect for one week to allow sediments to settle. A sump pipe will be used to decant it into several jugs to be shared around the party of 70.”
