College site snapped up by construction group

KIRKLEES College is selling its New North Road site.

The deal, for an undisclosed sum, sees Oldham-based Wiggett Construction Group acquire the 6.1 acre site in Huddersfield.

The site, to be known as Trinity Central, was made redundant when the college moved to new premises at Waterfront Quarter last year.

Wiggett is set to submit a planning application within the next few months leading to a start on site in 2015.

Peter McCann, principal at Kirklees College said: “We’re pleased to have taken a step forward with the sale of our former site. The Wiggett Construction Group is keen to create a development that will benefit the local community and we’re hopeful that our former site will be used to great effect for the people of Kirklees.”

Coun Peter McBride, Kirklees cabinet member for investment and regeneration added: “We are looking forward to seeing Wiggett Construction’s proposals for the site. The former college campus is a key gateway to Huddersfield Town Centre and so I welcome the news that proposals to redevelop the site are being actively pursued.”
