Appointments: Langleys, Thorn Baker, Carclo

YORK firm Langleys Solicitors LLP has announced that David Thompson has been unanimously re-elected as the firm’s managing partner.

David has been managing partner of the law firm for six years and will continue in this role for a further period of three years.

Langleys has offices in York and Lincoln and employs almost 400 people with an annual turnover of more than £20m.

David is head of Langleys’ insurance law division and is recognised in the 2015 edition of Chambers UK as a ‘leader in their field’ for his UK-wide work in insurance law.

Langleys’ regional and national clients include NFU Mutual, Severfield plc, First Group, Newcastle City Council, Indesit, Brit Global Speciality and UPS.

RECRUITMENT professional Emma Tolley has joined Leeds-based Thorn Baker to lead the company’s expansion plans.

Emma joins the recruitment firm as talent attraction manager with the task of building Thorn Baker’s nationwide team with talented staff and managers to lead the company into its next period of growth.

Emma has previously worked at Randstad and Office Angels. Most recently she worked for The Works, a specialist recruitment firm in Leeds.

Emma, who has worked in SMEs and large corporates during her career, will be working across all ten of Thorn Baker’s offices and devising a recruitment strategy plan with Thorn Baker’s four directors.

CARCLO PLC has appointed a new non-executive director, with the retirement of Bill Tame effective at the end of March 2015 after nine years in post.

Peter Slabbert has been appointed as Mr Tame’s replacement, and chairman of the audit committee with effect from April 1 2015.

He has been chief executive of Avon Rubber plc since April 2008. He joined Avon as group financial controller in May 2000 and he was appointed group finance director on 1 July 2005.

A chartered accountant, Peter joined from Tilbury Douglas where he was divisional director and group financial controller. Prior to that, he worked at Bearing Power International as finance director.

The firm has also announced that Eric Cook will retire as company secretary at the end of March. Eric has been company secretary since 1997.

Richard Ottaway, currently Carclo’s group financial controller, will be appointed company secretary with effect from 1 April 2015.
