New Leeds HQ for building giant Kier Group

CONSTRUCTION firm Kier Group is set to move into 8,500 sq ft regional headquarters in Leeds next month.

The 1,000-strong regional team will be headed by new managing director John O’Callaghan, a Yorkshireman with over 30 years’ experience in the construction industry.

The group, which is currently developing and building the new Grade A 110,000 sq ft Sovereign Square development in Leeds, has seen extensive growth in the region over the last 12 months.

This growth, and the appointment of a new managing director for the North, has prompted the move from its Boston Spa base to Thorpe Park in Leeds.

Kier’s new 8,500 sq ft offices will accommodate its Construction, Living and Property divisions, with space for expansion and new employees as the firm recruits to support its continued growth in Yorkshire.

The firm’s latest project is the Grade A speculative office development at 3 Sovereign Square in Leeds, being delivered in partnership with joint developer Bruntwood, which is due to be completed in summer 2016.

John O’Callaghan, managing director of Kier Construction in the North, said: “The public sector has remained active throughout the recession as it is critical to deliver core services in sectors like education and health, and we will continue to be a leading provider of public sector projects.

“But the commercial market had been heavily subdued. Now once again there is a clear appetite and confidence to invest and build across the retail, office and industrial markets, and as a delivery partner of choice we are signalling our ability to support our clients with our new expanded office and integrated Kier presence in the city.”

Kier Group employs over 15,000 people worldwide and recorded turnover of £3bn in the last financial year.
