Cheers! £34m-turnover wine distributor sold to North West rival

KINGSLAND Drinks, the independent supplier of wine and spirits, has uncorked a deal to buy a Yorkshire rival.

The Irlam company has bought Bottle Green, a £34m-turnover wine distributor based in Horsforth near Leeds, for an undisclosed sum.

In the year to the end of June 2014, Kingsland, which has more than 280 employees, had sales of £165m.

Bottle Green, whose portfolio includes the Blue Nun brand, was previously owned by Dublin-based business DCC Food & Beverage.

South Manchester law firm McHale and Co advised Kingsland on the deal. The McHale team was led by Andrew Page, commercial partner, assisted by Bridget Coyle.  Page has advised Kingsland for the past 11 years, having acted for the current owners on its MBO.

Barbara Kenny and Nevan Cahill of William Fry in Dublin acted for DCC.
