Appointments: Bradford Society of Chartered Accountants; Wates Construction; Kirk Newsholme

TIM PARR, a tax partner at Baker Tilly, has been elected President of the Bradford Society of Chartered Accountants, taking over the reins from Alan Wintersgill.

The Society, which represents 850 members in Bradford and Craven in North Yorkshire, organises a number of social and technical events for members throughout the year.

Mr Parr, who graduated in law from Bristol University in 1982, is a chartered accountant and chartered tax adviser based at Baker Tilly’s offices in Leeds.  His particular speciality is in remuneration planning and advising on the usage of limited liability partnerships.

He said: ‘It’s a great privilege to be elected as President of the Bradford Society of Chartered Accountants. We have an exciting programme of events lined up for the coming year, and I am particularly looking forward to helping support our younger members with their professional development.’

WATES CONSTRUCTION, the contractor currently building Leeds’ £100m Central Square, has added four people to its regional business development team.

Alistair Gill joins as bid centre manager, supported by newly appointed proposals manager, Diana Holden. Both will be responsible for tendering opportunities across the region.

The appointments also include business development manager, Freddie Whitehead, who joins from ISG Construction and will fulfil a remit of generating new business opportunities. Sophie Waite joins the team as commercial administrator.

Paul Dodsworth, business unit director for Wates Construction Yorkshire & North East, said: “Our new appointments mark a significant move by Wates to boost an already strong regional team and we look to the coming months with immense enthusiasm as we seek to expand our regional presence.”

KIRK NEWSHOLME, the Leeds firm of chartered accountants, has appointed two managers as it bolsters its team.

Sarah Sargent has joined the firm as tax manager after eight years at Armstrong Watson, and has a wide range of experience including personal tax, capital gains tax, corporate tax, residency issues, inheritance tax and trusts and estates.

After more than 10 years at BDO, Diane Thompson has joined Kirk Newsholme’s audit department as assistant manager.  Diane has worked in the audit and accounting profession the last 20 years and has a wide range of experience working with clients ranging from SME’s to international groups.

The firm’s managing partner Graham Kirk said: “We are delighted to have both Sarah and Diane onboard as part of the management team here. They both share our ethos of providing excellent client service and are a great addition to our team.”
