Damning report by inspectors sees care home operator banned

ACTION has been taken to cancel the registration of a care home operator to protect the welfare of the people living there.

Mr Atique Rehman has been barred from operating care homes after inspectors found that facilities at Royd Hill Nursing Home were well below par.

Residents were not properly cared for, with some becoming dehydrated and underweight, health and safety procedures lacking and staff were not properly trained.

Inspectors also found poor cleaning standards with communal areas unclean and stained with urine.

Debbie Westhead, deputy chief inspector of adult social care at CQC, said:”People are entitled to services which provide safe, effective, compassionate and high quality care and Mr Rehman has failed the residents of Royd Hill Nursing Home.

“The provider was placing people at significant risk of receiving inappropriate or unsafe care and made no attempt to address the issues we identified. For this reason we had no option but to cancel the registration.”

Residents of Royd Hill have been relocated to alternative accommodation and the site is now empty.
