McCarthy’s opens £2m self storage facility

THE third and largest self storage centre in Yorkshire from removals firm McCarthy’s has opened after a £2m investment in its purchase and renovation.

McCarthy’s Removals and Storage acquired the former Magnet kitchen showroom on Kirkgate in Wakefield, which has been unoccupied for five years.

The 40,000 sq ft development has created four jobs, and is spread across two floors, providing over 400 storage units.

McCarthy’s is a family-owned business which also has sites in Leeds and Harrogate.

Mike McCarthy, managing director of McCarthy’s Removals and Storage, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have opened the doors of our new self storage centre in Wakefield. Anyone who knows the area will know the building in Kirkgate where we’re based, as it’s on the main road into the city.

“It’s easily accessible in the car, with ample parking, or by foot from the city centre.

“We had been looking for the right premises in Wakefield for some time. We felt the city needed cost-effective, flexible storage facilities, and also the service complements the removals side of our business, for which we already have a strong customer base in the area.”
