120 jobs to be created at Leeds residential development

APPROVAL has been granted for a residential scheme in Leeds set to create 120 jobs, after developers addressed flood threats to the community.

Banks Property, a Durham-based developer part of the Banks group, put forward plans for 181 homes on Station Road in Methley.

The 828,821 sq ft site will create 120 jobs “directly and indirectly” and comes with an associated planning agreement package worth over £4m.

This £4m will partly go towards improving flood defences around the River Aire, which was highlighted as a priority during public consultation.

Michael Shuttleworth, managing director of Banks Property, said: “We’ve had a lot of local support for our Station Road plans, as well as clear recognition of the benefits that it could help bring to the local area, so we’re very pleased that we’ll now be able to get on with realising our proposals.

“There is an increasingly urgent need to increase the supply of new homes across the Leeds area.

“Flooding-related issues were sadly very high up the national news agenda earlier this year, but even before this, the local importance attached to improving the defences on the River Aire was very clear from the comments received at our public exhibition and in other community forums. We moved to respond to this as part of our proposals, and the members of the Plans Panel were particularly keen to see the measures that we’ve outlined put into place.”
