Northern Monk set for international pilgrimage

NORTHERN MONK BREWERY has successfully moved to a manufacturing site that has increased capacity by two thirds.

After a total £132,000 investment in future growth and international expansion, the team, led by Russell Bisset relocated to The Old Flax Store at Marshalls Mill.

The famous brewers received a grant of £26,500 from Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership towards the transformation of the formerly derelict building.

Now the firm can produce 10,000 pints a week.

The firm is planning to expand internationally and take a swig of the lucrative global craft beer market.

Mr Bisset said: “We’ve got the space to expand further at the brewery and introducing packaging lines will give us a real point of differentiation.

“We’re presently exporting to countries including the US, Germany, Italy and Spain and international trade is a key growth area for Northern Monk Brew Co.”

Roger Marsh, chairperson of the LEP, said: “The micro brewing industry here in the Leeds City Region and Yorkshire is in good health with some fantastic businesses having been established in recent years.
“I am delighted companies like Northern Monk Brew Co are exporting their products around the world, sharing a taste of Yorkshire with an international market and strengthening our thriving food and drink sector.”

Mr Bisset added: “As a manufacturing company we feel a real affiliation with the industrial heritage of Leeds and we are rightly proud of showcasing this.

“From a business perspective the performance of Northern Monk Brew Co since our move to The Old Flax Store has surpassed our expectations and we’re excited about the future opportunities.”
