Appointments: Hempsons, MKM Building Supplies, Hobson & Porter

HEALTH CARE law firm Hempsons has added to its clinical negligence team at the firm’s Harrogate offices.

Kathleen Wilson has been appointed as partner along with Ruth Day, who becomes an associate with Hempsons.

Ms Wilson said: “I am delighted to be re-joining Hempsons once again and continuing to build upon our already impressive portfolio of clients.

“They are incredibly important to us and we take great care to ensure they are well looked after.

“Hempsons is the leader in its field and I look forward to adding to the reputation and expertise of the Harrogate office and wider national group.”

MKM Building Supplies has appointed Philip Johns as chief executive.

He will be taking up his post from August, and joins from listed firm SIG, where he was managing director of the exteriors division and responsible for around 200 branches.
Founder David Kilburn will become executive chairman.

MKM has 42 merchant branches and is aiming for the 100 mark. Sales hit £213m in the year to September 2014, a 31% increase.

David Kilburn said: “I am delighted that Philip is joining MKM. Philip is very experienced in growing and developing a large branch network and managing a central team to support that network. I look forward to working with Philip to continue our growth and rolling out MKM’s unique proposition to many more branches.

“Philip’s appointment will build on our continued strong trading and is an important step in the next phase of our growth strategy, which has developing the branch network at its core.”

Three directors have been appointed at construction firm Hobson & Porter.

Jon Craven is to be minor works director, Richard Hunter has been appointed as commercial director and Mike Gibbin is filling the position of finance director.

The firm has had stellar start to the year, securing £18m worth of work in May.
