EMIS buys Leeds IT healthcare company for £3m

LEEDS healthcare company EMIS Group has bought a technology business, Pinbellcom, for £3.0m.
Pinbellcom, which has 12 staff at its Kirkstall office, supplies administration and compliance software mainly to healthcare organisations, including GP surgeries. It achieved sales of £1.2m in its tenth year, to March 2015, and adjusted pre-tax profits of £400,000.
The company’s founder Edward Bellamy, who turned 30 earlier this year, will join the management of EMIS Group’s ICT infrastructure division Egton and become head of its pre-existing web services team.
University of Leeds graduate Mr Bellamy owned three-eighths of Pinbellcom, as did chairman Dr Ian Pinder, while director David Coverdale owned two-eighths. Dr Pinder and Mr Coverdale will be retiring.
Chris Spencer, chief executive of EMIS Group, said: “This acquisition further enhances our product suite for primary and secondary care. These new products also support efficiency gains by providing a single point of access for all administration, process and management functions.”
Richard Hunt led a team from Squire Patton Boggs acting for Pinbellcom, which also included Jonathan Ross, Mae Salem and Fiona Campbell, while Simon Gray, Simon Roberts and Kirsty Parker from Hentons provided financial advice.

Schofield Sweeney’s Martin Sweeney, Steven Millward and Caroline Thompson-Hayes advised EMIS Group.
