Grade II-listed hotel back from the brink after buyout

A GRADE-II listed hotel in North Yorkshire has been acquired by a hotel group after it entered administration and suffered several loss-making years.

Solberge Hall Hotel has been acquired by Classic Lodges, who also own three other Yorkshire hotels; The Old Swan in Harrogate, Grinkle Park in Easington and Bagden Hall in Denby Dale.

Solberge Hall was placed into administration in 2011, and had several loss-making years until leisure firm Onecall Hospitality was appointed by the Royal Bank of Scotland in 2014.

Hotel management specialists Onecall undertook a full assessment of the business and brought it back into profit.

The distinctive Grade II Georgian mansion, which is set in the country between the Yorkshire Dales and Vale of York, has 24 bedrooms and a restaurant.

The new owners Classic Lodges, who now have 17 sites in their portfolio, told trade publication Hotel Industry that they would be investing “considerably” in the business over the next 12 months.

Mark Chambers, director of Onecall, said: “Solberge Hall is a fabulous hotel with a strong reputation but had been struggling for a number of years due to failure to control costs and the effect of the recession.

“Over the last year, we have looked at all aspects of its operation and found ways to increase revenue, improve efficiency and bring the business back into profit in preparation for the sale. There is no doubt that Solberge Hall is a superb venue and offers a tremendous potential for the new owners.”
