Scottish acquisition for "ambitious" asbestos removal business

ASBESTOS removal firm Clarke’s Environmental has acquired a Scottish business which it says signals the start of its “ambitious expansion programme”.
The Northallerton-based company is part of Harry Clarke Holdings and was set up in 2006 in response to what fellow group company heating contractors H Clarke and Sons saw as falling standards within the asbestos removal industry.
It has bought Angus Asbestos, a Glasgow business that will add to two Scottish offices opened by Clarke’s recently to help deliver a four-year commission with Scotland Excel.
Richard Clarke, managing director of Clarke’s Environmental, said: “Scotland is now a world leader in renewable energy and our acquisition of Angus Asbestos is just the start of our group’s ambitious expansion programme which will be rolled out across the next 12 months. Our growth strategy also includes additional investment and expansion in Yorkshire.”
Angus has had a difficult period, with its predecessor Angus Group being wound up after being fined £109,000 in 2014 after a Health and Safety Executive prosecution in Lincoln relating to safety breaches in 2012.
Angus Asbestos, which was created in August 2013 but is yet to file accounts, has 12 staff who will transfer over to Clarke’s and join a group with more than 100 staff and turnover of £10m.
