“Thriving” housing market opens the door for £40m residential development

WORK has begun on a £40m, 200-home development as the “thriving” regional housing market continues to grow.

Beverley-based Lovel Developments secured planning permission last year for the family-owned 1.09 million sq ft site, which will also include NHS health facilities.

David Wilson Homes is now on site, and will be developing a health clinic for the Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital complex.

The hospital building will provide the hospital with an additional 9,500 sq ft of space on two floors.

The project by David Wilson Homes, which comes under the Barratt Homes umbrella, is part of a £40 m investment in Anlaby and Hessle.

Permission has been secured for 202 homes.

It is expected to be finished within the next 12 months, and the homes will be released in phases over the next three years.

Paul Newman, managing director at David Wilson Homes Yorkshire East Division, said: “The Yorkshire and Humber housing market is currently thriving and in a positive position which is why we’re looking to develop more family homes across the area that will free up smaller properties for first time buyers.

“This feeds the local economy and ultimately helps those looking to move up the property ladder, as well as those taking their first step onto it.”

Lovel Developments has also submitted a planning application for the first phase of a housing development south-west of Beverley which will eventually provide 1,900 homes.

Philip Lovel, managing director of Lovel Developments, said: “We are able to bring forward complicated developments, and our success in that area has led to us being invited to work on schemes further afield. We have delivered sites in Yorkshire, the Midlands and London.

“The site in Anlaby has been more straightforward because it had been owned by the same family since the 1950s. The big step was to have it included in the local plan but we worked closely with the planning officers at East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Anlaby Parish Council was very supportive.

“It is a big site and it is one of the best in the region for housing development. It is not in a flood zone and it is sustainable because it is so close to Anlaby village.”

Mr Newman added: “The Anlaby development is the first large housing site in the village for many years. It will provide much-needed quality housing and will support the local economy by underpinning a significant number of jobs and investment in local facilities.

“With 208, two to five-bedroom homes being built and a variety of buying schemes available, including Help to Buy, these homes will address the diverse needs of the housing market in the East Riding, offering five-star, new build homes to an area which is growing in popularity.”
