Engineering firm heats up with £3.5m investment

ENGINEERING firm Meltham Thermal Engineers is investing £3.5m in its business, and creating 7 jobs as it expands its production facilities.

The firm is planning on moving into purpose-built factory premises in Slaithwaite in early 2016.

MTE, which was born in the depths of the recession, is getting additional space of 12,000 sq ft, bringing its total space up to 34,000 sq ft.

Two furnaces will be housed there, with space to add a third within two years, the first of their kind in the UK.

They will increase capacity by 25% and reduce running costs by 50% due to their efficiency.

The firm said its period of growth was down to the government’s tax relief on capital investment set out in the Budget.

The firm is getting a visit from Member of Parliament for Holme Valley, Colne Valley and Lindley, Jason McCartney next week to mark the success.

MTE director, Geoff Windas said: “We’re excited to show Mr McCartney around on 2 September and talk to him about our growth plans.

“The whole team is eager to progress with the move and we’re really hoping that he has positive news about the LEP grant. He is known for supporting local businesses and it’s great to know that he believes MTE to be a good example of a company with growth potential.”

Jason McCartney added: “I’m looking forward to hearing firsthand about the growth which capital investment will facilitate for Meltham Thermal Engineers. The company is maintaining the region’s reputation for excellence in heavy engineering and this substantial investment in equipment will position it at the forefront of the heat treatment industry.”
