Charity: Leeds Law Society, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice; Heart Research UK

LEEDS LAW SOCIETY has donated more than £2,000 to residential centre Lineham Farm as part of its president’s fundraising for Leeds Community Foundation.

Through working with the Foundation, Leeds Law Society chose to donate the money raised throughout the year to the farm to fund the refurbishment of the  bathrooms in the Courtyard Cottage to enable young people to visit and stay at the farm all year round.
Philip Jordan, 2014-15 President of Leeds Law Society said: “Leeds Community Foundation is a fantastic charity and I am proud that the Leeds Law Society was able to support them as my President’s Charity last year.
“It’s great to see that the money we raised will support Lineham Farm, to create a safe and fun space for young people in Leeds to enjoy the countryside and learn new life skills.”
Lineham Farm, in North Leeds, provides residential facilities for children from across the city. Each week they take groups of up to 30 young people from a range of backgrounds to take part in fun activities such as cycling, bushcraft, high ropes, archery, orienteering and just generally having fun.
Mike Jackson, who was recently appointed treasurer of Leeds Community Foundation, said: “This is a great example of how organisations can make a real difference and improve young people’s lives. As a new member of the board it was lovely to meet one of the projects and see first-hand the great work that they do. I hope this will inspire more local businesses to get involved with their local community.”

A BUSINESS club, 365, has been launched by Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice to support the charity for just a £1 a day.

Members of the Bluebell Wood 365 Business Club will help support more than 200 children with life shortening conditions and complex medical needs.

For £365 a year, corporate members of the 365 Business Club will pledge their support.

Rachael Dawes, corporate fundraising manager at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, said: “By committing to this relationship, the 365 Business Club members let us plan for our future. This helps us to continue providing our specialist support and creating unforgettable memories.

“Our club provides an opportunity for businesses to boost corporate social responsibility and increase profile; all while making a positive difference to the lives of our children and families.”

ILKLEY-BASED Approach PR and Filmore and Union are collaborating on ‘Get Ilkley Walking’ – the latest drive to encourage local employees to take part in an outdoor activity during the working day on behalf of Heart Research UK (HRUK).

A one hour walk filled with healthy refreshments will also be served up to all attendees on arrival back. Filmore and Union, which opened at the former Martha and Vincent site this week, will be supplying fresh remedy juices, super seed bars and gluten free wraps.

‘Get Ilkley Walking’ will commence at 12pm on 16 September from the bandstand on The Grove. HRUK will also have its own stand hosted by mascot, Hartley, with opportunities to take a #HealthySelfie as well as finding out more about supporting the charity.

Founder of Filmore and Union, Adele Carnell said: “Our larder of healthy snacks and energy-boosting smoothies are the perfect accompaniment to a heart pumping lunchtime walk so we’re really looking forward to refreshing Ilkley’s businesses and residents while supporting such a worthy cause.”

Managing director of Approach PR Suzanne Watson said: “We are really excited to be putting on this unique Ilkley event and want to encourage local businesses to get behind our fundraising drive and increase their heart rates during lunch hour.”
